I like spelling chimera with an "x" as a stylistic touch. It's not just for the "cool 90s letters" effect; it begins with what looks like an X in Greek but which is actually Χ (chi). It's usually transcribed as ch or kh (thus "chimera" or sometimes "khimera") but is pronounced as a K. Ch=K is common in words of Greek origin, like "archaeology" or "chorus". So "chimera" works fine as a species, but "Ximera" might be how I spell it as a proper name.
